WVHS rolls out recognition program based on Portrait of a Grad tenets
This year, WVHS administration has created a new monthly recognition program based on the tenets of our district’s Portrait of a Graduate. Each month, the high school administrators, faculty and staff will nominate students who they have noticed exhibiting one (or more) of the seven traits. Every two months, certificates will be presented to the students during Portrait of a Graduate Celebrations.
“So, this recognition is not necessarily about getting an A+ in in a class, but for being a good communicator, working well with your peers, showing resiliency, for just being a kind human being,” explained WVHS principal Georgianna Diopoulos. “We just wanted to acknowledge you for all those times you make the right decisions and good choices, even when you think we’re not looking.”
During the month of September, administrators and secretaries from each office in the building were asked to nominate a student. During the month of October, nominations were solicited from our foreign language teachers.
“This really is a character acknowledgment,” said associate principal Christopher Firorentino. “Communication, collaboration, creator, innovator, ethical and global citizen, resilient individual, problem solver, and lifelong learner; you displayed one of those traits and we just want to acknowledge you guys for doing a great job.”
Associate principal Erin Hill-Lewis added, “And the awesome thing about those traits, is that you’re already exhibiting them in high school! These are traits that are going to help you beyond these walls, so we’re really glad to see this in all of you.”
