Community Update: Reopening of Buildings and Grounds Monday, July 3
The Warwick Valley Central School District School District will reopen on Monday, July 3, 2023. Throughout the incident, measurements taken by The Orange County Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Response Team indicated that the air quality remained within normal parameters at multiple points surrounding the scene. The battery storage system has been powered off, remains secure, and will remain offline for the foreseeable future.
To ensure the safety of our students and staff, the District engaged an independent consultant specializing in Industrial Hygiene Services and Air Quality. Their thorough examination revealed that no residues of lithium, bromide, or fluoride were detected, in all sampled areas such as classrooms, offices, and bus surfaces. We are grateful for this expert assessment, which confirms that there are no concerns regarding air quality or residue.
We understand the importance of addressing the root cause of this incident, and investigators will now have the opportunity to gather more information as the unit has returned to an ambient temperature.
Our primary focus has and will always be the safety of Warwick Valley students and staff. We will continue to share new information as it becomes available. You may review our previous posts here…
