Community Update: Energy Facility Fire, District Closure

June 28, 2023

Warwick Valley Central School District will be closed on Thursday, June 29 and Friday, June 30.

The Town of Warwick Police Department, Warwick Fire Department, Orange County Emergency Services, Convergent Energy and Power, and the battery storage system manufacturer, Powin, all have representatives on site at the fire adjacent to the WVCSD Transportation Garage on Route 1A. These organizations are actively managing the situation and coordinating the response.

Although the fire continues to diminish, it continues to be an active site. The public is being encouraged to avoid the immediate vicinity until further notice. Hazmat has continued to monitor air quality throughout the day across multiple points surrounding the scene, and measurements have all been within normal parameters.

Our primary focus continues to be the safety of Warwick Valley students and staff, so we have made the decision to close the District on Thursday and Friday this week, June 29 and 30.

We have been sharing updates on this situation since yesterday afternoon, and will continue to keep you updated as we have new information. You may review our previous posts here…
