Wildcats Spring Sports Update (May 10, 2024)
BOYS GOLF
Warwick’s unbeaten boys golf team won matches over Cornwall, Minisink Valley, Valley Central and Washingtonville on May 6, 2024, to capture the OCIAA Division II championship at Warwick Valley Country Club.
Quinn Boudreau led with way, shooting a 39. The Wildcats, now 11-0, beat Cornwall 163-182, Minsink Valley 163-207, Valley Central 163-183 and Washingtonville 163-211.
Tyler DeSotle and Gary Polakoff both shot 41, and Will Roome posted a score of 42.
“We are having another successful season,” co-coach Peter Scheuermann said. “Each player on the team is contributing, and we are expecting seven players will qualify to go to OCIAA championships next week at West Point.”
Warwick beat Washingtonville 208- 270 at Warwick Valley Country Club on May 4, led by Roome’s 38. Christian Boudreau shot 40, Quinn Boudreau 41 and Jack Boudreau 42 for Warwick.
SOFTBALL
Warwick Valley scored seven runs in the top of the ninth inning to defeat Cornwall 13-6 for its sixth straight victory on May 6. The Wildcats (10-4) have softball been on a scoring spree lately, outscoring its opponents 42-8 in the last three games.
Against Cornwall, Warwick had a total of 21 hits. Amanda Larsen went 4-for-5 , while Alyssa Sarlo, Etta Garofalo, Olivia Martino and Melina Garby each had three hits. Rylee Moore drove in four runs with two clutch hits, and Eva Garofalo had two hits and two RBI.
Warwick defeated Washingtonville 13-1 on May 4. Winning pitcher Martino threw a four-hitter with 11 strikeouts and also had three hits and an RBI. Etta Garofalo, with a triple and two doubles, and Penny Bieling each had three hits. Garby drove in three runs with a double and a triple.
Etta Garofalo went 4-for-5 with two RBI to lead the Wildcats past Monticello 16-1 on May 3. Garby had three hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs. Eva Garofalo also had three hits and three RBI.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Kelsy Larney scored four goals to pace Warwick past Highland 11-7 on May 3. Kelly Nevins and Keira Mangels each had two goals. Lily Mahoney made eight saves.
On May 2, the Wildcats overpowered Delaware Valley High School by a score of 20-9. Nevins scored four goals. Keira Mangels and Alexa Hays each had three goals, and Mahoney made five stops.
BOYS LACROSSE
Warwick defeated Goshen 19-3 on May 3. Matthew Sansone led the scoring with three goals and two assists, and Anthony Mazza added three goals and one assist.
On May 1, Dylan Sullivan scored eight goals and had one assist in a 20-9 victory over Valley Central. Joey Finn had four goals and five assists to reach the 100-point mark for his career. Goalie Luke Solari made seven saves to reach 400 saves for his career.
BASEBALL
Ryan Lawler threw a no-hitter with 14 strikes in a 14-0 victory over Monticello on May 3.
TENNIS
The Wildcats were shut out by Washingtonville 7-0 on May 6.
