Girls crew team wins Hudson Valley Rowing League championship
The Warwick Valley High School girls crew team closed out their 2023 season by taking the top spot in the Hudson Valley Rowing League (HVRL) championship regatta.
Consistent rowing in the preliminaries put all three of Warwick’s boats in the finals. In the finals, a gutsy sprint at the finish had the Girls 8 finishing second, less than half a second ahead of third place. With strong third and fourth place finishes by the Girls 4 boats, Warwick was able to claim the championship.
The Warwick boys closed out their season at the HVRL Championships with the Boys 8 finishing a solid fourth place. After a difficult race start, the boys put in a determined row to just miss a podium finish. Congratulations to our seniors: Isabelle Flores, Lizbeth Varela-Cordero, Olivia Nosarzewski, Quinn Barravecchia, Sasha Blanchard, Brendan Tennant, Jack Maxcy, John Harrison, John Anthony Miller, Joey Rodrigues, Kyle Brown, Owen Hoey, and Thomas Kanz for their outstanding contributions to Warwick crew.
In a separate event, the Girls Novice 8 continued their winning streak and showed that Warwick will be the boat to beat in the future. They dominated the field with a victory well over four boat lengths ahead. Rounding out the girls season, at the HVRL Sculling championships in Kingston, Leila Morris rowed an impressive race to win the Girls Single HVRL Championship.
