Additional activities and opportunities…

Seventh and Eighth-Grade Fall Harvest Dance
Each fall, our seventh and eighth-grade have a spooktacular, fun-filled dance with a Halloween focus. Although a costume is not required, many of our students choose to dress up as they dance the night away in our own cafeteria. Our PTA does a fantastic job decorating our school and transforming it into a festive and frightful wonderland.

Eighth Grade Dance
This is the culminating event for our 8th-graders as they prepare to head off to high school. Students enjoy a beautiful dance in June, and celebrate with friends. Photos are taken, music is enjoyed, and the PTA does an incredible job with a surprise theme, down to the last detail. Parents are always welcome to take photographs of students and capture this special evening.

Cabaret
Talk about talent! Calling all singers! This is the audition for our spring play. Students get up on stage and belt out their favorite show tunes, pop tunes, etc., to a live audience of parents, peers and faculty. A fun night for all to attend, this event is usually packed, as the musical talent of our students is nicely showcased in an evening of fun.

Foreign Language Week
A new and exciting event for seventh and eighth-graders, Foreign Language Week highlights how lucky we are to know and interact with various cultures. For example, local native speakers come in and visit classrooms throughout the month of March. At a culminating food-tasting, our local restaurants and parents prepare foods from around the world that our students are able to taste and enjoy during their foreign language periods. We create a festive atmosphere in the board room, complete with music, table settings and decorations. We certainly couldn’t pull this one off without the help of our dedicated parents and PTA.

STEAM Fair
Warwick Valley Middle School students get the opportunity to “strut their stuff” during our annual STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) fair in the spring. Students build and present various projects to parents, peers, teachers and administrators in the areas of science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics. This year our STEAM fair grew to bigger and better proportions with the addition of food, music, a DJ and HS students and teachers joining the fun. Students won amazing prizes donated by our own PTA. It is an event we all look forward to that builds on student creativity, collaboration and 21st century thinking.

PBIS Character Education
At WVMS we believe in supporting the whole student, and PBIS is just one way we accomplish this. Schools are successful when they help children grow academically, socially and emotionally. Our middle school students are aware of behavioral expectations through classroom lessons, team events, quarterly celebrations and special activities throughout the year. Students enjoy the opening Pep Rally which welcomes everyone back to school and sets the tone for a positive and productive year! Positive behavior is continually reinforced through the use of our ROAR Ticket Rewards System and students are always eager to hear if they are one of the weekly or monthly winners!

May We Honor You Veterans Breakfast
Our talented Home and Careers department organizes breakfast to honor the community’s veterans. Each Veteran who attends receives a few valentines created by our students, dines on an amazing breakfast prepared by our Home and Careers classes, and sings along to the music provided by our band, orchestra and Guitar Club. Our student hosts/hostesses also meet, greet and help serve our guests. It is a wonderful tradition we are proud to continue each year.
