Warwick Historical Society barn raising presentation at Sanfordville Elementary School

The Warwick Historical Society brings various programs to all Warwick Valley Central School District elementary students in grades K-4. Sanfordville Elementary School third graders recently enjoyed their Coming to America/Barn Raising presentation by John Johansen. Students learned about the struggles early Warwick residents faced when they settled the land and began farming.

In an interactive STEM lesson, Mr. Johansen showed them the tools and animals used to clear trees and rocks from the land in order to build homes and barns. They also learned about daily life in Warwick long ago and compared it to their own. The students loved asking questions and getting to handle real artifacts used in building and farming the land in Warwick.
