Park Avenue LEGO League Jr. team shows off its “brickmastery”
This morning, the Park Avenue LEGO League Jr. team presented its final build to an audience that included Principal Biniaris, teachers, and staff.
Since mid-November, the team of six students have met with Ms. Cangialosi before school to work on this season’s LEGO challenge. Students this year were third and fourth graders.
“Our team started the season by using LEGOS to build a way to collect energy with a wind turbine, a way to store energy in an energy storage facility, as well as a way to use the energy by building a carousel ride,” Ms. Cangialosi said. “The team did an impressive job this season and really bonded together through this LEGO challenge.”
To accomplish their mission, the team collectively brainstormed ideas about which LEGO enhancements they wanted to add onto their existing builds. As a group, students decided to build a solar panel field, an additional energy storage facility, as well as a pirate ship ride for the carnival-themed area on the map. Once all components were built, students broke out into small pairs to program three different parts — the spinning wind turbine, a house that lights up, and a “sailing” pirate ship.
The final task was to write about each part they built in preparation for the presentation. The team created a collaborative Google Slides project, with each student typing up their own parts. At the end of the presentation, the audience was able to have a Q&A with the brick masters!
