Park Avenue Elementary School Second Graders Hold Mascot Election

Ms. Kennedy and Mrs. Hobart’s classes at Park Avenue Elementary School held an “election day” for Second Grade Mascot. By staging the event, students learned about the election process. Students in each class ran campaigns for their candidates: Silly Sally for Mrs. Hobart’s class and Humorous Lolli for Ms. Kennedy’s class. Students in the other second grade classes visited Ms. Kennedy’s and Mrs. Hobart’s classrooms to learn about each candidate and then cast their votes in the library.

“This lesson utilized the Portrait of a Graduate attributes of collaborator, communicator, creator/innovator and life-long learner,” Ms. Kennedy said. “The students were very engaged during this hands-on experience.”

When the votes were counted, Humorous Lolli edged out Silly Sally 29-22.
