Debra Weissman, Supervisor of Transportation, retires after 13 years of service to the district
Congratulations and best wishes to Warwick Valley Schools’ Debra Weissman, who retired at the end of 2020 from her role as Supervisor of Transportation.
Debra began working in the District as a dispatcher in 2007. In 2012, Ms. Weissman was promoted to Supervisor of Transportation. In the eight years since, she has overseen transformative projects with her team and has maintained an excellent DOT safety record.
“You name it and Debra has done it, and done it very well, for our District over the years,” said Superintendent of Schools David Leach. “She has our gratitude for being such an active and integral part of our school community, and we cannot thank her enough for the dedicated leadership she provided right through her last day on the job.”
Under Debra’s leadership, the Warwick Valley Schools Transportation Department purchased 13 propane buses and installed a propane filling station, while also upgrading its fuel monitoring system. There has also been the addition of GPS and cameras to every school bus, as well as significant upgrades to the transportation building, including the recently installed bus wash.
“Debra was instrumental in getting significant upgrades made to our Transportation Department facility,” added Assistant Superintendent for Business Timothy Holmes. “She has been an incredible asset to our team and a strong advocate of the transportation department. We especially appreciate the extra time she has given us to help ensure we could move ahead seamlessly during this atypical year.”
Most importantly, Ms. Weissman led her team of 100 hard-working employees, to a long record of exemplary reviews from the New York State Department of Transportation.
“I have loved working here and I’ll miss the team, the people, most,” she said. “I’m going to miss that camaraderie.”
Ms. Weissman career began as a bus driver and eventually the head bus driver for the Greenwood Lake Union Free School District. That’s an entire career of making sure our most cherished loved ones have gotten where they needed to go, safely and every day. Congratulations, Debra, on a wonderful career, and thank you for the fantastic legacy you leave behind.
May retirement take you exactly where you want to go!
