Congratulations to the newest members of the National Junior Honor Society

Warwick Valley Middle School inducted new members into the Warwick Valley Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society in three ceremonies held on Wednesday, May 12th, on the football field.

The National Junior Honor Society embraces the highest standards of scholarship, service, leadership, and character and citizenship. Wednesday’s event included the traditional candle lighting ceremony and pledge. Each new member also signed their name in the chapter book.

NJHS student officers, including president Evan Grundfast, were in charge of the ceremony. Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Leach, Middle School Principal Georgianna Diopoulos and faculty adviser Michael Justiana also spoke during the ceremonies.

Chapter vice president Holly Purta received an Outstanding Achievement Award and a $500 college scholarship from the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) and the office of the NJHS. This is a national award given to those NJHS members who demonstrate excellence in the five areas of scholarship, leadership, service, character, and citizenship.
