Boys cross country finishes strong at Section 9 championships; freshman Leon Shostal advances to states
On Wednesday Nov. 6th, the boys cross country Purple Wave team travelled up to historic Bear Mountain State Park to take on the challenging 3.0-mile course around Hessian Lake in the Section 9 Class A Championship meet. The team had a great race, putting an entire season worth of training to work as they placed third out of 10 schools and bettered last year’s finish position in this meet by four places.
Freshman Leo Shostal led the squad with a fifth-place finish time of 16 minutes, four seconds. RJ Dovico was the number two man in 17:42, AJ Kobrick snagged the number three position for the Wildcats in 17:56, Jackson Spivak had the best race of his season and was the Purple Wave number four guy at 18:01. Co-captain Liam Astbury came in at 18:07 to round out the scoring. Sophomore Jake Cosco ran 18:12 and co-captain Collin Freet ran 18:21. Shostal qualified for the New York State Championships in Queensbury, N.Y., on Saturday, Nov. 16.
