Girls x-country finishes strong at Section 9 championships… Dovico advances to states
The Warwick girls varsity x-country team competed at the Section 9 Class A Championships on Wednesday. The team had marked its calendar for this date a long time ago, as they knew they had a legitimate shot at qualifying for the state championships in Queensbury, NY.
The Wildcats ran their best race of the year!
Senior captain Alyssa Dovico placed 3rd overall, with a time of 19:33 over the 3-mile course. Not far behind was junior Madison Olszewski, who narrowly missed qualifying for states by just one spot, finishing 8th overall with a time of 19:57. Trixie Wendell and Julia Schlesinger turned in solid performances to finish 12th and 13th respectively, and sophomore Juliette Cloutier finished with a personal best time of 21:58.
Ultimately, the Wildcats lost to perennial powerhouse Monroe Woodbury High School by a score of 52-53.
Alyssa Dovico will represent Warwick Valley at the state championships, and the Wildcats still have a shot at qualifying for the Federation/NXN Championships, to be held at Bowdoin Park on November 23.
Congratulations on a tremendous season. Go purple wave!
