WVMS Wildcats defeat Monroe, share this week’s My Jersey, Your Impact picks
The WVMS Wildcats modified football team defeated Monroe Woodbury last night in a 20-18 nail-biter of a battle. It all came down to a gripping 50-yard touchdown pass on the final play of the game for the win! The Wildcats improved their record to 3-2 on the season.
The Wildcats also continued their teacher gratitude and recognition campaign, My Jersey, Your Impact, before the game, as two more players shared their jersey’s with a teacher of their choice, whose guidance has meant a lot to them during their middle school experience. The jerseys are shared every gameday, and can either be displayed in the classroom or even worn by the recipient.
Ryland Cady & Mr. Gouveia
As a first year player, Ryland has been a vital utility man for the Wildcats. He has played every position on the offensive line, as well as tight end. Ryland maintains a great attitude towards practice, and is always ready to learn something new. Ryland chose to share his jersey with his seventh grade science teacher, Mr. Gouveia. Ryland appreciates Mr. Gouevia’s welcoming and engaging classroom culture, and how he made science easy to understand.
Joe Santiago & Coach Botta
“I had the absolute honor of being given my first jersey this year,” said WVMS math teacher and modified football coach Mark Botta. “Although I encouraged Joe to give it to someone else, he wanted to give it to me!”
Joe is one of the Wildcats returning linemen this year. Joe loves the game of football and is the type of person and player that anyone would want as their teammate. He brings positivity to every aspect of being a Wildcat, both on and off the field, and in games and at practice. Joe is a natural leader, and and his teammates love him. Joe chose Mr. Botta for being such a great coach, saying that he appreciates his demeanor at practice.
