Inspired by an incredible true story, Newsies shares the tale of a group of brave newsboys who dared to take on the powerful publishing industry, and against all odds, won a victory that would go on to change the face of child labor rights. With a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein, the musical was adapted from the popular 1992 film to bring this timeless story of unity and strength to a whole new generation.

Newsies is based on the real-life newsboys’ strike of 1899, which pitted a group of poor and often orphaned children against Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst. When these hardworking newsboys discover that the city’s newspaper publishers are raising prices at their expense, the charismatic Jack Kelly rallies newsies from every borough to join together and strike against the unfair working conditions. Together, the newsies learn that by uniting forces to fight for what’s right, they have the power to change the world.
