WVHS performs annual spring concert, recognizes seniors (gallery & video)

The Warwick Valley High School Music Department presented its annual Spring Band Concert on Tuesday , April 30. The evening included performances by the high school’s Jazz Ensemble, Concert Band, and Wind Ensemble, under the direction of WVHS band director Megan Shafer.

Celine Arizpe Benitez
has played the flute in Concert band for the past four years. She plans to go to college for financing and business, but has not committed yet and is currently deciding between Pace University and SUNY Oneonta.

Dan Felker
has played trombone in concert band since his freshman year and the jazz band the past two years.  He will be attending SUNY Albany for computer science.

Liam Feragola
played the trumpet and was in Concert Band for 3 years before enrolling in Wind Ensemble in his senior year. Also a member of the Jazz Band in his junior and senior years. Plans to attend the University of Tennessee.

Megan Forman
plays the clarinet and has been a part of the wind ensemble for four years. She has participated in the Hudson Valley Honors Band program, All County Band, and NYSSMA. She will be attending University of Tennessee Knoxville to major in nursing with a minor in Spanish.

Abigail Gatdula
is President of the band department and served as Vice President last year. She is a percussionist in Wind Ensemble, playing for 7 years. As well as a pianist for 14 years. She has participated in Hudson Valley Honors Band, All County Band and Orchestra, and Area All state Orchestra. Abigail has accomplished NYSSMA (level 5 Marimba, level 6 piano) and was accepted into the NYU Piano Intensive in 2022. She plans on pursuing an economics degree in college.

Talia Hartigan
plays the flute and has been a part of the wind ensemble for four years. She has participated in the Hudson Valley Honors Band Program, NYSSMA, All-County, and Area All State. Talia will be attending SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry to major in Forest Ecosystem Science and minor in Recreation Resource and Protected Area Management. She would like to thank her family for supporting throughout her academic and musical career.

Jack Kaminski
has been playing mallet percussion since his junior year and has played the piano for the  jazz band since his sophomore year. Outside of school, he plays the electric keyboard with 2 different bands that play rock, funk, and jazz. Jack plans to continue his musical journey next year by studying jazz at Bard College.

Nicole Klein
plays the alto saxophone and has been a part of Wind Ensemble for four years, Jazz Band for three years, participated in Hudson Valley Honors Band Program, NYSSMA, and was the Band Drum Major for one year. She will be attending Susquehanna University in the fall.

Moth Kron
has been playing the flute since sixth grade. In Iowa, he played in his school’s concert band for four years and jazz band for one year. He has been playing flute for Warwick Valley High School’s concert band for three consecutive years, and received a 92 after playing a level 5 piece for NYSSMA in 2022. He plans to attend the Rutgers honors college, and will be majoring in psychology.

Chelsea Liang
plays the clarinet and has been a part of Concert Band for two years, and participated in NYSSMA once. She will be attending SUNY Binghamton University to major in Biology.

Ella Ludmerer
is a bass clarinet player who has been in the concert band for three years, the wind ensemble for two years and is the band secretary. Ella will be attending SUNY Delhi in the fall and will be majoring in nursing.

Kayla Ludovicy
plays the oboe and has been a part of wind ensemble for four years, jazz band on trumpet for three years. She has participated in All-County band & orchestra,  Area All state symphonic band,  and All State symphonic band.  She has also performed with the Hudson Valley Honors Band & Orchestra as well as the NYU Broadway winds intensive program.  Kayla has attended NYSSMA since 5th grade.  She will be attending The Cooper Union for chemical engineering.

Alex Pack
plays the guitar and euphonium, and has been a member of both Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band for 4 years.  He will be attending the University of Miami in the fall to major in accounting.

Ben Poka
plays the drum set and has been a part of Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band for three years. Ben has also participated in the Hudson Valley Youth Jazz Orchestra, All-state Vocal Jazz, and has played in a few bands of his own. He will be attending Berklee College of Music in the fall for Percussion Performance.

Elliot Quicke
plays trumpet for the wind and jazz ensemble. He’s been in the program for all 4 years of high school and intends to keep playing past high school. Elliot intends on taking a gap year to travel abroad before going to college.

Dan Svoboda
has played trombone for four all four years of his high school career, in Concert Band for the first two years and Wind Ensemble for the past two. He plans on attending Ohio State University in the fall to dual major in Aerospace Engineering and Airline Management 

Conrad Wendell
plays trombone in Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, and All-County. Conrad will be attending the United States Military Academy at West Point in the fall.
