WVHS music production students debut original music on the radio
On Monday, five students from the WVHS Music Production class had their first songs debuted on the radio! If you don’t know about the high school’s incredible Music Production class or Studio Music Club, take a minute to check them out. Both provide musical opportunities beyond traditional scholastic music offerings, and present students with new and exciting career and collegiate pathways in the music and production world.
WVHS Music Production teacher Elissa Maynard accompanied student composers Jaylen White, Jonathan Pesante, Natalia Zarate-Gonzalez, Anthony Fasolino, and Landon Komorsky to the WTBQ radio studio, where their songs were played live on both streaming and terrestrial radio. The five songs showcased musical styles ranging from hip-hop to melancholy singer-songwriter.
The students were also interviewed by the on-air host about their creative processes, and shared personal stories behind their music, allowing the listeners a closer perspective of who they are as young musical artists. One student, Jonathan Pesante, even performed his song live!
Students in the Music Production class were challenged to write an original song and the top five were selected for the radio play.
“I am so proud of each of my music production students,” said Ms. Maynard. “And I’m pleased that these particular five had the opportunity to share their talents with the world!”
