WVCSD holds annual STEAM Fair, K-12 Rock and Roll Art Show and Scholarship Chair Auction Display
WVCSD’s annual STEAM Fair, K-12 Rock and Roll Art Show and Scholarship Chair Auction Display on Friday evening was an amazing showcase of our students’ talent, creativity and ingenuity.
The art show in the gymnasium featured a variety of mediums and artwork from students in kindergarten through 12th grade including paintings, drawings, sculptures, photography, ceramics and pottery.
“The K-12 art display this year was probably one of the best yet,” WVHS art department chair Shari Blauner said. “I overheard several students and parents commenting on the incredible artwork, and the raw talent that the students of WVCSD have. They were simply in awe.”
The Art Show included a display of the chairs that are being auctioned off online and a sneak peak of the Newspaper Fashion Show. The Empty Bowls Club raised $200 with sales during the event. Bidding was open for the chair auction until 7 p.m. on Friday, May 20.
The WVMS STEAM Fair in the old gym gave students an opportunity to practice scientific thinking and problem solving through interactive, hands-on investigations and inventions. WVHS students in Mrs. Tuow’s Science Research class served as mentors and judges for the STEAM participants.
Jaxsen Mita won first prize with Affordable and Portable Microscope project. Stella Serafin placed second with her display of Using Human Body Heat as a Source of Energy. Adam Hooper earned third place with a Spring Shoes project.
“I think everyone did a great job setting up their stations,” said WVMS science teacher Ms. Cardone. “All the students were very well spoken, and it was very impressive to see that. It was a great night for the district, and it was nice to see that everyone who walked through the doors was excited about the event.”
In addition to the 22 projects on display, the STEAM Fair featured robotics, slime making and face painting.
