WVCSD administrative team attends workshop to support and improve instructional practices

August 23, 2023

The Warwick Valley Central School District administrative team recently attended a
seminar as part of its continuing efforts to support and improve teachers’ instructional
practices.

The workshop was designed to equip administrators with a comprehensive
understanding of John Hattie’s groundbreaking work on Visible Learning Theory and
how it can be effectively applied to support and enhance teachers. The session was
engaging and interactive and provided the administrative team with the knowledge,
tools and strategies needed to create an environment where teachers can thrive and
optimize student learning outcomes.

“Overall, the workshop was a success as it fostered a culture of feedback and growth
while supporting collaborative learning communities,” said Meghan McGourty, WVCSD
Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. “We believe this approach
enhances teaching quality and student outcomes by emphasizing effective practices
and innovation in the classroom.”

The session activities included a focus on the core principles of Visible Learning.
Administrators explored the key concepts, research findings, and meta-analyses that
underpin this theory. The goal was to gain insights into the factors that have the most
significant impact on student learning, and how these findings can guide instructional
decisions.
