WV Odyssey of the Mind teams succeed at regional tourney

Warwick Valley Odyssey of the Mind (OOTM) sent nine teams to the OOTM Region 5 Tournament at OU-BOCES on Saturday! Six Warwick Valley teams will be moving on to the OOTM New York State Tournament on April 5th.

More than 60 students, 14 coaches, countless parent volunteers, and Warwick Valley Odyssey co-coordinators, Donna Denny and Josephine DiSalvo, were at OU BOCES on Saturday to compete in the uniquely creative competition. Each team has been hard at work since the fall, planning and perfecting their problem-solving performances.

“All of the Warwick teams gave incredible performances yesterday,” said Warwick Valley Odyssey co-advisor Donna Denny. “Each team has worked for hours — since October — making the sets, props, costumes, and writing scripts.”

The effort and focus of all Warwick Valley OMers is to be recognized and honored. Every year, Odyssey students continue to impress, with their ingenuity, perseverance, creativity and outstanding collaborations. Way to go, Wildcat OMers!

Park Avenue… 1st Place (Problem 3, Division 1)

Middle School: 1st Place (Problem 1, Division 2)

Middle School: 1st Place (Problem 2, Division 1)

High School: 1st Place (Problem 1, Division 3)

High School: Problem 5

A Warwick Valley Middle School team also captured 2nd Place for Problem 3 in a very tight competitive field. The team gave an outstanding performance, but will not be moving on to states.

A team from Sanfordville Elementary captured 3rd place for Problem 1. Despite some mechanical difficulties during their performance, the team’s performance earned them a lottery spot and they will be moving on to the state tournament!
