Wildcats defeat Binghamton in season opener
Defense Sets the Tone in Week “0” Win
The Wildcats varsity football team rallied behind an outstanding defensive showing to defeat the Binghamton Patriots by a score of 27-16 in “Week 0.” The teams chose to play a game rather than a scrimmage in the optional week prior to school opening, and the Wildcat’s hard work over the summer showed its value. Team captain Jake Rooney paced the defense with 11 total tackles. The defense was also bolstered by the return of Johnny Accardo from injury in 2022 and the tenacious “D” of junior Wyatt Vreeland, who recorded a sack and seven total tackles. Altogether, the defense set a high bar for the Wildcat in the weeks to come, allowing only two first downs in the first 30 minutes of the game.
Senior receiver Latrell Willis had five receptions for 90 yards and a touchdown. Ryan and Dylan Sullivan combined for four catches, nearly 100 return yards, a touchdown. Senior quarterback Wils Siebert threw for two touchdowns and ran for another two.
Warwick hosts the Kingston Tigers this Friday, September 8, 2023. There will be an opening ceremony at the football field at 6:45 pm, followed by kick-off at 7:00 pm.
Go Wildcats!
