GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Warwick junior Alyssa Dovico placed fifth in the Section 9 Class A Cross Country Championships to earn a spot at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Championship on Nov. 11 at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School.

Dovico, the team captain, led the Wildcats to a second-place finish in the race at Sanfordville Elementary School on Nov. 4. The completed the 5K course in a personal best time of 19 minutes, 34.5 seconds. Other personal best times were turned in by Trixie Wendell (20:16.3), Julia Schlesinger (20:32.3), Natalie Eger (21:32.3), and Alexa Keys (22:21.1).

Monroe-Woodbury won the team title with 36 points. Warwick was second with 89.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

On Nov. 4, the Purple Wave Cross Country team played host for the Section 9 Championships at Sanfordville Elementary school.  The boys team set a season best 18:03 five-man average using a meet best 34 second compression.

The team was led by freshman Jake Cosco, who placed 24th in 17:44 and was followed by junior Liam Astbury (17:52), freshman RJ Dovico (18:02), freshman Alex Kobrick (18:15), junior Colin Freet (18:21), junior Jake Tannar (18:46) and sophomore Jackson Spivak (18:47).

Monroe-Woodbury won the Class A team title with 24 points.

VOLLEYBALL

Warwick’s volleyball season ended with a 25-11, 25-7, 25-10 loss to Minisink Valley in the Section 9 Class AA semifinals. The Wildcats ended their successful season with a record of 13-5.

Erin Smith led the Wildcats with five kills. Hallie Hansen had three kills.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Maeve Wright was the top finisher for Warwick at the Section 9 championship meet on Nov. 4 at Valley Central High School. She placed sixth in the 100-yard butterfly with a personal best time of 1:01.00. Ciara Kelly finished eighth in the 200 individual medley (season best 2:21.57) and the 100 breaststroke (1:14.73).

Senior Sydney McSweeney closed out her high school career by finishing eighth in the 50 freestyle with a personal best time of 25.78.

FOOTBALL

Warwick finished out the 2023 football season as Section IX Class A semifinalists defeating Washingtonville to advance to the semi’s and eventually falling to Cornwall 46-6 at Beacon High School on Nov. 3.

Warwick was led defensively by senior captain Jake Rooney, who led the team 21 solo
tackles and 10 assists (second all time in solo tackles in a game behind Mike Marcolini
in 1983). Senior Captain Johnny Accardo (eight tackles and three assists) intercepted the
Cornwall quarterback twice and returned one for a 90-yard touchdown.

Nick Sirico (six tackles and three assists), Grant Havell (seven tackles and three assists) and Michael Miller (six tackles and four
assists) had big days for the Wildcat defense.

Quarterback Wils Siebert passed for 73 yards including completions to Latrell Willis, Dylan
Sullivan and Luca Siebert. Connor Brogan and Dylan Sullivan combined for 80 yards of
kick-off return yardage.

Cornwall will meet Our Lady of Lourdes in the Class A final on Nov. 10 in Middletown. Warwick defeated Lourdes in mid-October. The Wildcats ended their season with a record of 6-4.
