Week one of One Book, One School at Park Ave

February 1, 2024

The One Book, One School program puts a copy of the same book in the hands of every Park Avenue family. And then, the fun begins!

With everyone enjoying the book on the same schedule, it’s a school community-wide read along, with engaging and exciting opportunities designed to get everyone participating: Reading chapters together at home. Online video readings by some very special guests from our Park Avenue community! Challenging trivia. And, of course, tons of different reading-related activities going on in school!

On Monday, January 29, Park Avenue families embarked on this year’s One Book, One School reading program, when they learned the title of this year’s read-together, Frindle, by Andrew Clements!

3… 2… 1…

FRINDLLLLLLLLLE!!

One Book, One School is all about reading to our children and connecting our community through books. Children who experience an adult reading to them, learn to read more easily and become better readers in the process. And you should see just how enthusiastic people become about reading, when they’re all part of a reading community… TOGETHER! Take a look at our One Book, One School kick-off video (including the exciting title reveal) and you’ll see…

Frindle, is a fun, light-hearted read about an irreverent boy named Nick, who invents a new word that makes a big impact on his town; and the story of his sometimes contentious, but ultimately rewarding relationship with his English teacher.

Here is what Park Avenue Librarian and Media Specialist Matthew Spicehandler had to say, reporting in from Week One.

One Book, One School has been going great so far! We’ve been posting online trivia questions for each night and getting a ton of participation. Students have also been really enjoying the videos of Park Avenue teachers reading each chapter every night!
