Warwick Girls Flag Football Kicks Off in Wildcat Country
For the first time in the 127-year tradition of Warwick athletics, girls will play football, flag football. That’s right, flag football has hit the ground running in New York State as a scholastic sport to be played in the spring and many Lady Wildcats have taken on the role as trailblazers in the inaugural season.
The NY Jets have come through on their pledge of nearly $9,000 to any school in Section IX this year to get flag football off the ground and cover many of the start-up costs. Games are played on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings to avoid conflicts with the many girls who have chosen flag football as a multiple spring sport athlete. The team is coached by Rocco Manno, Carlos Barquero, Jim O’Brien, Mckenna Digiulio and many other volunteers.
The Warwick team traveled to Florham Park to participate in a flag football jamboree hosted by the NY Jets. Thank you to Elijah Hodges of the NY Jets for putting the event together.
