Warwick girls basketball team advances to Section 9 championship game
The Warwick Valley girls basketball team will play Monroe-Woodbury in the Section 9 Class AA championship game at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1, at Sullivan County Community College in Loch Sheldrake.
The top-seeded Wildcats (18-2) defeated Newburgh Free Academy 43-22 at home on Sunday to reach the finals. Warwick has won 17 straight games since losing two games at a tournament in early December.
Lindsay Evans paced Warwick with 12 points and Megan Desrats scored nine points against Newburgh. The Wildcats, who defeated M-W twice during the regular season, have scored an average of 51 points a game while allowing just 31.

Second-seeded M-W beat Pine Bush 55-46 in their semifinal game.
The winner of the Section 9 championship game advances to the first round of the Class AA state tournament against the Section 1 champion on March 8 at Kingston High School.
