Voters approve capital improvements project Dec. 9

December 9, 2014

Project will require NO SCHOOL TAX INCREASE

The approved $8 million capital project includes boiler replacement at the Middle School, High School and Park Avenue Elementary, and roof repairs at the High School, District Office, Sanfordville Elementary, Facilities Maintenance Building and Bus Storage Facility.

The project will also include flooring replacement at the High School, Sanfordville Elementary and Park Elementary; paving and sidewalk replacement at the High School, Middle School and Sanfordville Elementary; pool repairs; electrical work; tennis court rehabilitation; security upgrades and other necessary repairs. Some of the paving and sidewalk work is required to increase handicapped accessibility.

Much of the work included in the project is listed in the district’s most recent building condition survey (BCS). The BCS is a detailed architectural review of the infrastructure of district buildings, and is updated every five years.

Additionally, to facilitate 21st Century learning, the redesign of some instructional learning areas, such as the High School Media Center and Communications classroom/studio area are being proposed.

The $8 million project will be funded by the district’s $3 million Capital Reserve, combined with NYS Building Aid at 63 percent, making it possible to accomplish the project without an additional increase in school taxes.

The project was approved Dec. 9 by almost 70 percent of voters.
