Six WVHS football players sign letters of commitment

April 11, 2022

April 7 was a great day to be a Wildcat, as six student-athletes signed National Letters of Commitment to play football at their respective colleges. The recruiting process began in their junior years with over 30 college coaches walking onto the Warwick High School campus, multiple college visits, and phone calls, with the end results being great fits for the “Super Six.”

Jake Durie signed with Western Connecticut State in Danbury, CT. The two-time All Section IX linebacker was recruited by Head Coach Joe Loth and will play linebacker for the Colonials of the NCAA MASCAC Conference. Durie received in-state tuition discount and will study physical education and health. Jake is the son of Jill Dumanovsky, Paul Dumanovsky, and Jason Durie of Warwick, NY.

Nick Simonetta signed with St. Thomas Aquinas in Sparkill, NY. The All League receiver led the Wildcats with 38 receptions for 586 yards and five TDs. He was recruited by Head Coach Matt Berry, and will play receiver for the Spartans of the NCAA Collegiate SFL. Simonetta is the recipient of the EOP Scholarship covering full tuition, room, and board for his four years at STAC and will study exercise science. Nick is the son of Antonella Amato of Greenwood Lake, NY.

Dan Robledo signed with Keystone College in La Plume, PA. The AA All League Honorable Mention offensive lineman was a two-year starter on the offensive line and recruited by Coach Brennan Pelkey (Offensive Line Coach). He will compete as an offensive lineman for the Giants. Robledo is the recipient of the Trustee Scholarship ($1000 annually) and Keystone College Grant ($8000 annually), and will study secondary education with a concentration in social studies.  Dan is the son of Ana and Elliot Robledo of Warwick, NY.

Nick DiMarco signed with Western Connecticut State in Danbury, CT. The two-time All League quarterback’s senior statistics include nearly 2000 combined rushing and passing yards and 17 total TDs. He was recruited by Head Coach Joe Loth and will compete as a QB for the Colonials of the NCAA MASCAC Conference. Nick will receive in-state tuition discount and will study health and physical education. Nick is the son of Chris and Danielle of Bellvale, NY.

Dan Thorson signed with Catholic University in Washington, DC. The All League Running Back compiled over 1100 all-purpose offensive yards and led the Wildcats with 10 rushing TDs. He was recruited by Head Coach Mike Gutelius and will play running back for the Cardinals of the NCAA NEWMAC Conference.  Dan will study finance and is the recipient of the High Academic Scholarship ($30,000 annually). He is the son of Dan and Deborah Thorson of Warwick, NY.

Matt Amaturo signed with Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY. The AA All League Defensive Lineman was a two-year starter for the Wildcats and was recruited by Head Coach Mark Carr. He will compete as a defensive lineman for the Hawks of the NCAA Empire 8. Matt will study finance and received $180,000 in scholarship and grants over his years, including Judge Cooper Scholarship, Hartwick Founders Award, Hartwick Community Award, and the Hartwick Housing Award. Matt is the son of Joe and Theresa Amaturo of Warwick, NY.

All of the student-athletes thanked their parents, coaches, teachers, and the Warwick Valley Central School District Administration for the support throughout their years at Warwick Valley. It was especially challenging for the senior class in all sports as they played their junior year in a condensed season last spring.

Go Wildcats!
