Park Avenue Student Council attends Wreaths Across America event
The Park Avenue Student Council, along with students from Goshen and Orange-Ulster BOCES, lined Main Street in Goshen on Wednesday as a Wreaths Across America tractor trailer carrying nearly 4,000 wreaths, passed by on the way to Orange County Veterans Cemetery.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the New York State Police and other local law enforcement and first responders provided an escort for the truck. The Park Avenue students, who raised more than $2,500 to purchase wreaths, held letters spelling out “Thank You Veterans”. The students also made a banner, “Welcome to the Family”, for the new driver because the former driver is retiring.
The Wreaths Across America event, which starts at noon on Saturday at Orange County Veterans Cemetery, is open to the public. Guests are encouraged to arrive an hour early due to the large crowd expected. There will be parking available across the street or guests can park at the Government Center on Main Street and take the free shuttle to and from the cemetery. The shuttle will begin running at 9am and continue throughout the event.
The Park Avenue students will be there to help lay the wreaths at the cemetery, where the Warwick Valley High School Meistersingers will be performing.
