Kindergarten Screening
Dear Warwick Valley Families:
With a busy final month of the school year underway, we are also very excited to look forward to next year and the new students we will welcome into our kindergarten classes. As we’ve shared in a previous message to the community, Pine Island Elementary School will remain open for our kindergarten classes in the 2021-2022 school year.
Kindergarten screening for all new students will occur in person, beginning on June 28, 2021, and continuing through July 1, 2021, at Pine Island Elementary School, located at 20 School House Road in Pine Island. If your child will be an incoming kindergartener for the 2021-2022 school year, please call the District to make a screening appointment. Call the District Registrar, Helena Hagen, at (845) 987-3000, ext. 10901.
The screening process takes approximately 45 minutes, during which your child will visit six different stations to be evaluated for:
- Gross motor coordination
- Fine motor coordination
- Speech and language
- Vision and hearing
- Understanding of concepts
- Ability to express themselves
Screenings are carried out by a District team of experienced teachers, speech therapists, psychologists, nurses, and instructional aides. Parents will be asked to provide additional information about their child’s health history, socialization skills, behavior, level of independence, and attention span.
Thank you for your continued cooperation and support as we wrap up this unique school year, and thank you for your enthusiasm and interest in next fall. We look forward to meeting you and your young Wildcat during the kindergarten screening process.
