March 8, 2023

Warwick Valley Schools’ Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction Meghan McGourty, for being honored by the New York State Council of School Superintendents (NYSCOSS) with the Dr. Mary Barter Scholarship. The presentation took place during the closing keynote session of the NYSCOSS 2023 Winter Institute on March 7.

The scholarship, named in honor of Dr. Mary Barter, an exceptional educational leader and the first female president of NYSCOSS, was initiated to inspire and promote more diversity for those interested in the field of educational leadership. It is presented to an administrator who is enrolled in a graduate program pursuing a School District Administrator or Doctoral Degree. Ms. McGourty is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Manhattanville College.

“Meghan is respected by her colleagues and loved by her students for her commitment to their learning, and for her ability to form strong relationships with them,” said Warwick Valley Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Leach. “She also created a ‘Women in Leadership’ series for students in senior leadership classes to explore the contributions of female leaders throughout history, and who have left an indelible mark on the world.”

Ms. McGourty aspires to be a superintendent who will make a significant and lasting impact on the education of students. Please join us in congratulating her on this well-deserved honor.
