The District uses a notification system called School Messenger Service.
School Messenger Service (SMS)
School Messenger Service (SMS)
All custodial parents in the district, as well as staff members, are automatically signed up for School Messenger Service (SMS). The district uses the phone number of each child’s primary residence for the following School Messenger Service alerts:
- Attendance (phone calls, emails and optional text message saying the school has sent a message)
- Weather-related emergencies (phone calls, emails and optional text message saying the school has sent a message)
- Closings and delays (phone calls, emails and optional text message saying the school has sent a message)
- Safety communications (phone calls, emails and optional text message saying the school has sent a message)
By default, parents are set up to receive phone calls sent by school administrators.
A parent or staff member can choose to receive a text message or email in addition to or instead of a phone call. The text message will briefly say that WVCSD has sent a message, it will NOT contain the whole message, which is often too lengthy for cell phones to receive.
If the parent or staff member has chosen to only receive text messages/emails and NOT phone calls, the parent/staff member must check their email to see exactly what the message is.
