January 28, 2025

Back in December, a group of students from Warwick Valley High School’s Taste of Culinary class, taught by Corinne Lane, had the exciting opportunity to visit the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in Hyde Park. Students explored one of the most renowned culinary schools in the world, getting an insider, firsthand look at the various  aspects of the culinary world, including the kitchens, baking labs and classrooms where future chefs hone their craft.

“It was inspiring for our students to see CIA students in action, perfecting their skills and demonstrating the dedication it takes to succeed in the competitive culinary industry,” said Ms. Lane.

During their tour, students learned about the myriad and varied career paths that the culinary field has to offer, from professional chefs and pastry chefs, to restaurant managers and food stylists.

Just as the high school’s Taste of Culinary course is a largely based on hands-on, experiential learning, the students got to see how the CIA prepares students for successful careers in the food industry with a similar hands-on approach to training and specialized programs.

Warwick’s culinary crew also got to sample some delicious desserts prepared by the CIA’s pastry students. The beautifully crafted sweets showcased the impressive talent and creativity that CIA students develop during their time at the institute.

To top off the experience, the students were treated to a meal at the American Bounty Restaurant, a dining establishment located on the CIA campus, where culinary students prepare and serve the meals. The meal was a highlight of the trip, offering us a taste of the high quality cuisine that the students create under the guidance of expert instructors. The flavor, presentation, and attention to detail were all exceptional, and it was clear that the students were not only learning how to cook but also how to deliver an unforgettable dining experience.
