About the Program
Each summer, the district’s Summer Enrichment Program offers children a unique opportunity to learn and have fun. The program begins the week of July 8. All classes are held at Sanfordville Elementary School.

Class # 101 – Super, Silly, Explosive Science
Ms. Theresa and Ms. Donna. $125
Explore your scientific, silly, creative, explosive imagination! Your child will build and erupt volcanoes, make their own lava lamps, crystals & create an ocean in a bottle. See how truly silly you can be by creating edible scientific structures, experimenting with solids and liquids, gas & chemical reactions (inflating balloons), see how a tornado forms, and participate in science games and activities. Please bring your lunch and we will supply the snack each day.
Please bring the following supplies on the first day: Newspaper, Empty plastic water bottle with cap, One toilet paper tube.

Class # 102 – Theater Fun! (A Short Story Camp)

A week-long camp that will bring students through the steps of putting on a small theater production. Each student will be casted in a role for a short story production and will work on set designs and costumes. We will end the week on the final day with a small show for parents and friends! Do you want to play sports and learn more about them? Do you want to learn more about America’s favorite past times and recreational games? Students will learn in depth knowledge about football, baseball, basketball, and running and participate in varying activities in an enriching environment. Please dress in casual athletic clothes and shoes and wear sunscreen and bug repellant. Bring water and lunch each day. Limited to 12 students.

Students will experience Chinese through painting, music, food and Chinese culture related activities. Students will learn calligraphy, Chinese ink and silk painting, paper cutting, and origami. They will also learn how to cook delicious Chinese food and learn Chinese fan and ribbon dance.

Class # 107 – STEM Tales

We have put a STEM twist on a fairy tale. Students will follow a hands-on, easy to implement, fun and engaging engineering design process to solve a problem. Help Rapunzel plan an escape, or build Wolf a new house in the classic fairy tale, The Three Little Pigs. The following supplies are needed for the start of class: toilet paper tube (4), paper towel tubes (2), empty can or container (coffee can, milk carton, creamer bottles), and cereal boxes/cardboard boxes. Bring your lunch and we will supply a snack each day.

Students will be exploring famous book series like Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Harry Potter, Babysitters Club, Amulet, Percy Jackson, or any other series they find interesting. Students will complete hands-on projects to bring these book series to life, as if their book was becoming a live-action movie. Students may create a book trailer, movie set diorama, movie poster, magazine advertisement, or short skit to promote their chosen series. Students will be thinking about characters, setting, plot and target audiences in advertising while creating their projects.

Use recycled materials, newspaper, and flour + water paste, in a two-part process of making Paper Mache sculptures. In the first part of the week, create a form out of wire and/or recycled materials, which will act as a support to cover with strips of paper dipped in glue. In the second part of the week, after each object is dry, use temper paints to paint final works of art.

Class # 110 – STEAM Fairy Tales

Each day, students will be exposed to a classic fairytale that poses a STEAM challenge. Students will begin each session by reading a fairy tale and learning about the setting and the problems that the characters face. They will then be challenged to design a solution to the given problem by using the Engineering Design Process. Students will collaborate with their peers and build a working prototype of their solution using various materials, such as Ozobots, LEGO’s and IO blocks. A themed snack will be provided each day.

Students explore board games, card games, and story games from a strategic perspective with probability. The class offers a basic understanding of probability and application with the students’ favorite games. The class also explores creation of games using probability to achieve desired outcomes. Students will also develop a “choose your own adventure” style story where they assign values to decisions made by the players. The overall goal is to understand how games work through review, play and creation. Students can bring their own (approved) games to share.

Building is fun and exciting but it is even better with new friends. If you like to design, build and have fun then this class is for you. We will design, create, build, play, problem solve and work as a team as we explore through daily Lego challenges, Lego games, Lego inspired crafts and so much more. Let your imagination soar through engaging activities including Lego balloon powered cars, Lego volcanos, and rescuing a mini figure. K’Nex, Lincoln Logs and other fun building items will be added to the mix to further engage your young builder. The building and creating does not stop there, as snacks will also be constructed. If your child is going into Kindergarten then this class is designed for them. This camp is all about being comfortable in a new building with a new group of friends. It is about having fun through hands on play activities. Children will explore with Legos, Lincoln logs and other classic toys. We will build, create and explore the school through scavenger hunts and games. We will get messy through many activities including planting our own plants. Imaginations will run wild with the arts and crafts portion of the class. Please apply sunscreen, wear sneakers, and bring a lunch and drink each day. Become a junior vet, as we learn how to best care for our pets! We will learn first aid for our furry friends, the fun we share will never end. Explore the great outdoors right on the school grounds! Take a nature walk, go on a scavenger hunt, identify plants and animals, and many other types of nature fun! We will discover Warwick’s own agriculture crops learning the process of making applesauce from local orchards, onions rings and cornbread. Lots of Crafts, games and more. What child doesn’t love picture books and building? Join Ms. Berghahn as we read classic children’s literature and integrate STEAM engineering and design challenges around these beloved stories. The STEAM engineering and design challenges will bring the books we read to life as we build and create solutions to problems. *Please begin to save all kinds of fun recyclables (bottle caps, buttons, weird shaped containers, paper tubes, cans, etc…) that we can use with our STEAM challenges. The more you bring to share, the more we will have to use, and the more exciting our creations/designs will become. Please bring a healthy snack, water, and a bag lunch (no nut products please).

This week kids will all become superheroes as they create their own super-names, costumes, powers, and a world-saving story to go with it! We will practice being world-savers by building up our super strength, lightning speed, and learning how to save the world one good deed at a time.

Join us as we explore art through all 5 senses. Kids will experiment with different textures, colors, smells, tastes, and sounds, and create art inspired by sensory experiences. We will create edible art, use our whole bodies to make kinesthetic art (like splatter paint and paint filled water balloons), and see how listening to different styles of music while creating produces different results. Join us for a week of squishy, loud, soft, crunchy, splashy, and tasty fun!

One kid’s trash is another kid’s masterpiece! This week we will turn ordinary objects, household clutter, and straight up garbage into creations that are beautiful, useful, or both! We will make origami from old wrapping paper, paint on worn out book pages, make our crayons by melting down crayon scraps, make our own recycled paper, repurpose old CDs into works of art, and much more!

Students will investigate different famous artists (Picasso, Matisse, Kandinsky, Escher, etc.) and create works of art based off the famous works of these artists. Students will explore and experiment with different mediums to create dynamic works of art to take home and treasure forever. Students will become familiar with all stages of the artistic process including, but not limited to, planning, execution and critique.
