300+ eighth graders celebrated at WVMS Moving Up Ceremony

WVMS celebrated its eighth grade class today in a Moving Up ceremony held in the High School auditorium — their soon-to-be new school. Each student walked along the stage and a receiving line of Middle School and District faculty, staff and administration. WVMS Principal Georgianna Diopoulos welcomed the enthusiastic crowd of families and loved ones, and turned the microphone over to student emcee Shane Sutliff.  

Following a performance of our National Anthem by the Wire Choir and music teachers Shane Peters, Peter VanDeWater and Christy Brown, the Principal’s Award Speaker, Nina Cirillo, addressed her classmates. Associate Principals Jared Yapkowitz and Christopher Radon gave explanations of the awards being given out before Lauren Ogden read the names of the eighth grade graduates and award winners. 

Superintendent Dr. David Leach congratulated the future Class of 2027 for achieving the milestone of moving up to High School, and said he looks forward to the incredible things that this group of students will accomplish as they explore more educational opportunities over the next four years.

Finally, Principal Diopoulos encouraged the students to maintain an attitude of gratitude as they move into their new school, and to pursue the things that pique their curiosity and fill them with joy.

“Make your high school career one that is fulfilling,” she said. “You’ve made us all so proud, and we can’t wait to see what’s next!”
