With two weeks to go in season, modified Wildcats honor five more teachers
This week, five more Wildcats modified football players continued the team’s gameday tradition of honoring teachers who have made a significant impact on their middle school careers. The recognition campaign — called My Jersey, Your Impact — began a few seasons ago, and has become not only a weekly feel-good highlight for the players and the teachers, but also for everyone who has kept up with the heartfelt dedications posted regularly to our district’s website.
To recap, every day there is a Wildcats modified football game, players honor some of their favorite teachers for the positive roles they’ve played on the students’ middle school careers. The players drop in on their chosen teachers early in the day to surprise them with the dedications. The players share some words of gratitude and then hand over their jerseys. Teachers are proud to display the jerseys in their classrooms for the day, and then the players pick them up again before game time. Some teachers have even been known to put the jerseys on!
Here are this week’s players and teachers.
Billy Carroll & Mr. Zwart
Billy chose his seventh grade social studies teacher, because Mr. Zwart is great at breaking things down and making them easy — and fun — to understand!
Kevin Dwyer & Mr. Peters
Kevin picked his sixth through eighth grade chorus teacher. Kevin said he didn’t expect to like chorus, but Mr. Peters made him love it!
Edwin chose his eighth grade ELA teacher — “the greatest ELA teacher” as he put it — for the way she makes the class easy to understand.
Dylan selected his seventh grade social studies teacher because he appreciates the energy and passion that Mr. Patafio brings to class every day. He looks forward to playing for Coach Patafio at the varsity level!
Kellen chose to honor his seventh grade science teacher, Mr. Gouveia. Kellen not only loved Mr. Gouevia’s class, but also appreciates the kindness he shows to everybody!
