The Warwick boys indoor track and field team started off the New Year by competing at the Hispanic Games at the Nike Armory Center in Manhattan with 5,700 other athletes from up and down the East Coast on Jan. 4.
The highlight of the meet for the Wildcats was a record-setting performance in the 800-meter relay. Football and lacrosse standout Ryan Sullivan, competing in indoor track for the first time this winter, teamed up with Logan Conley (football/track), Luke Beattie (three-time pole vault state champion) and Isaiah Gonzalez (soccer/track) to run a school record time of 1:32.31. The record was formerly held by the 2002 team of Andy Gjeci, Spartek Gjeci, Dylan Begnoche and Chris Fusco.
Beattie also won the pole vault with a meet-record height of 16 feet, three inches. Beattie is ranked third in the nation and first in the state in the pole vault.
