Wildcats to celebrate 40th anniversary of `84 champs at homecoming

September 17, 2024

Warwick athletics has invited the members of its 1984 OCIAA championship football team to celebrate the 40-year anniversary of their incredible season, along with head coach John Garcia and his assistants, George St. Lawrence, Tom Folino, and Joe Zuk. The 1984 Wildcats team overcame a 1-2 start to its season to make a championship run that culminated in a win over Pine Bush for the title!

During those times, interscholastic football was county-based and school size was not factored into county championships. Warwick’s class of 1984 was approximately 170 students. That already meant the Wildcats were underdogs, competing against schools such as Middletown, Pine Bush, Newburgh, and Monroe, whose enrollments were significantly larger. But Warwick Valley spirit and grit overcame, and the `84 Wildcats will always be remembered in OCIAA history.

Were you a 1984 Wildcat? Maybe we’ll see you Saturday, at homecoming!
