Town of Warwick Police welcome second cadet class of the summer
The second session of the Town of Warwick Junior Police Academy began yesterday at the Warwick Town Hall. The Junior Police Academy is led by our district’s School Resource Officers and allows students to have fun while gaining an understanding of police training and service.
Students began their morning visiting the courts at the Warwick Town Hall. They sat in the courtroom while they learned about the role of the judge, prosecutor, district attorney, and jury. They asked thoughtful questions about these different roles and inquired about the various people and trials that may come into the courtroom. Some students asked questions about how things like noise complaints are dealt with in court, what a DWI is, and what happens when people get arrested.
The students’ day continued with a tour around the different areas of the courthouse, including the jury room, the clerks’ office, and court chambers, while they learned about various roles in the courthouse along the way.
The Town of Warwick Junior Police Academy continues through next week, and cadets will be taking on new and exciting adventures and challenges every day, including multiple field trips, interactions with emergency responders, and demonstrations on everything from police drones to police dogs! The WJPA graduates its second class of cadets for Summer 2024 in a ceremony next Friday, August 15.
