Summer Enrichment “swiftly” reaching its end, one more week to go
With the first day of school right around the corner on Tuesday, September 3, the 2024 Summer Enrichment Program has only a couple more classes left next week (see the schedule here). Indeed, the popular summer program is “swiftly” coming to a close.
The district’s annual Summer Enrichment Program offers Warwick students unique opportunities to combine learning and fun through a carefully curated schedule of special interest classes. The classes are designed to build upon skills learned during the school year, introduce new skills, and invite students to explore existing and emerging interests.
This week, Sanfordville teacher Megan Howard led her second “In Our Summer Camp Era” program of the summer. The weeklong program gets students exercising their minds and bodies with activities inspired by the music of… you guessed it… Taylor Swift! This week, Ms. Howard welcomed a very enthusiastic group of “Swifties,” and they have been having a blast taking part in summer camp-style, Taylor-themed activities and crafts.
On Wednesday, the class was rocking out to some “Taylor’s Version” tunes as they completed a Swiftie Scavenger Hunt and sketched out designs of what their own Taylor Swift Eras Tour outfit might look like. The group finished out the day by tie-dying tee shirts.
Meanwhile, in “Create a Graphic Novel” class…
Park Avenue teacher Krystie Gilmore welcomed a group of young illustrators and authors who were interested in creating their own graphic novels. Ms. Gilmore has led the students’ exploration, beginning with a brainstorming session focused on the basic concepts and plots for their stories. The students have been working on creating compelling characters and shaping their storylines, while also learning how to utilize space and color to tell their story within the format of graphic novel panels.
The students have already completed the covers for their graphic novels. By the end of the week, they will have not only gotten an introduction to all of the elements that go into creating a graphic novel; they will have made one of their very own!
Here’s a look at some of the fun that’s going on this week in the Summer Enrichment Program.
