Park Avenue students sample possible futures at 3rd/4th grade career day

May 20, 2024

Park Avenue third and fourth graders welcomed some very special guests for CAREER DAY last week!

Parent volunteers were at Park Avenue to talk to the students about their jobs — what they do, how they do it, and what they love about it. Each parent set up their presentation in one of the third floor classrooms, and then the students travelled from classroom to classroom in groups, listening to each one.

Among the variety of careers represented were law enforcement, emergency services, content creating, engineering, and health care… just to name a few!

Students listened with interest and asked excellent, inquisitive questions during their Q&A sessions with each professional. They also got to enjoy fun hands-on experiences, including trying out some protective gear, and even pulling a fire alarm!

Students learned how each parent came to their chosen career, and also learned what it takes to maintain the career that they love. Each of the professionals at Career Day exhibited the invaluable quality of being a lifelong learner — one of the seven qualities of our district’s “Portrait of a Graduate”.

The students got to meet and learn from professionals right in their own community who are passionate about what they do, and eager to learn how to do it even better!

Career Day was truly inspiring for the 3rd and 4th graders at Park Avenue. A very special thank you to these Career Day parent volunteers:
