Girls & Boys X-Country wrap up successful seasons

December 7, 2023

The Wildcats Girls X-Country team was a determined team that did not let setbacks define their season.  After many cancelled competitions due to early season heat indexes and inclement weather, the girls trained hard, battled through adversity and enjoyed a successful end to their season. They beat every team in their conference and were crowned OCIAA Division II Champions!

The team went on to place 4th at the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association meet, and 2nd place at the Section IX Class A meet. Trixie Wendell and Julia Schlesinger turned in strong performances, while captain, WVHS junior  Alyssa Dovico, led the team with numerous first place performances throughout the season. Her personal best time was 19:34.5, a performance that qualified her for the NYSPHSAA XC Championships. Alyssa represented Warwick and Section IX well at the state competition.

The Wildcats Boys X-Country team had another year of improvement, led by freshman Jake Cosco. Jake was the team MVP and helped the Purple Wave improve seven team places in the OCIAA Championships from just a year ago. The team, which posted three big wins against division opponents this fall, rounded out its top seveb runners with Liam Astbury, Collin Freet, Jake Tannar, AJ Kobrick, RJ Dovico and Jackson Spivak.

The runners each achieved improvements of more than 90 seconds per man from the previous, and with the entire team returning next year, Warwick athletics is excited for even bigger things in the fall of 2024.

Go Wildcats! Go, Purple Wave!
