Fifth and sixth graders encouraged to go for it… #theskysthelimit
At Warwick Valley Middle School, the sky’s the limit! That’s the overarching message that WVMS Principal Jared Yapkowitz delivered to a cafetorium packed with enthusiastic fifth and sixth-grade students, and their teachers, during this morning’s annual Welcome Back Assembly.

Principal Yapkowitz touched on many important topics during the assembly, including setting clear expectations of the middle school students for the year, as well as re-introducing sixth grade school counselor William Menkens. His address covered building hours of operation and how the bell schedule works, and laid out the rules students are expected to follow throughout the school year. These included being on time for class, not running in the hallways, lunchtime procedures, recess rules, and the importance of always being kind to one another.
The students also got a sneak preview of what’s coming up during the next few weeks of school, and not just things to expect in their classrooms. Principal Yapkowitz laid out some plans for Spirit Week and Homecoming – which are already right around the corner – as well as WVMS PTA-sponsored events. In particular, he mentioned the Color Run coming up on October 19 – a student favorite!

To wrap things up, Principal Yapkowitz shared the theme for the school year — theskysthelimit — and encouraged the students to go for it this year in everything they do, from classes to co-curricular and extracurricular clubs, and beyond. He let them know that they have the full support of the middle school administrative team, their teachers, coaches, and the entire WVMS staff, so there is nothing they can’t aspire to and achieve.
Have a great year, everyone!
