Mandated Reporters in New York State Include School Officials
The recent and well-publicized child abuse allegations
involving Penn State University serve as an important reminder
that all individuals with reason to believe that a child is
being abused have, at the very least, a moral obligation to
promptly report those suspicions to appropriate public and/or
nonpublic officials for investigation and response. In New
York it is also a legal duty for certain individuals,
including "school officials," broadly defined to include
school teachers, guidance counselors, school psychologists,
social workers, nurses, administrators and other school
personnel required to hold a teaching or administrative
license or certificate.
DonorsChoose.org - Where All Public School Teachers Can Post Classroom Project Requests
DonorsChoose.org is an online charity that makes it easy for anyone to help students in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America can post classroom project requests on DonorsChoose.org. Requests range from pencils for a poetry writing unit, to violins for a school recital, to microscope slides for a biology class.
Then, donors can browse project requests and give any amount to the one that inspires them. Once a project reaches its funding goal, DonorsChoose.org delivers the materials to the school.
Donors will then recieve photos of the project taking place, a thank you letter from the teacher, and a cost report showing how each dollar was spent. If donors give more than $50, they'll also receive hand written thank you letters from the students.
At DonorsChoose.org, people can give as little as $1 and get the same level of choice, transparency, and feedback that is traditionally reserved for someone who gives millions. They call it citizen philanthropy.
