community forum

The Warwick Valley Central School  District held a Community Forum on Sat., Nov. 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the middle school.

In an effort to gather input from a broad range of Warwick residents on important issues that will guide the District and the Board of Education in the strategic planning for Warwick schools, The Board of Education invited community members to register to participate in the Nov. 7 Forum.

The day included discussion of the results of the Community Survey and panel and group dialogue on a range of topics pertinent to future planning. Discussions centered on critical questions generated from results of the survey. It is anticipated that follow-up sessions with stakeholders will take place to assess progress on values and goals.

square bulletAdvisory and Action Plan

The committee members of Community 20/20 serve in an advisory
capacity to the Board of Education and act as a liaison between
the board and the WVCSD Community. The committee has developed
a model for implementing 20/20 goals that includes a community-wide
survey, a meeting of community stakeholders and a process for
interfacing with stakeholders around progress on commonly held values.

square bulletAbout the Community-wide survey

The purpose of the survey, which ran from Oct. 9, 2009 to
Oct. 25, 2009, was to establish a baseline of the perceptions and
values of community stakeholders and provide specific, measurable
results. The intent of administering the survey was:

To explore current knowledge of the school system as it exists today

To measure concerns for the future of the school system

To look for knowledge gaps

To explore opportunities to improve stakeholder ownership

To inform the community about District goals and Mission

Feedback from the survey should be a valid reflection of the entire
community and will help shape the direction of our school district.
The meeting of community stakeholders centered on critical questions
generated from the results of the survey. These critical questions will
guide the formulation of a set of common values and goals. Follow-up
sessions with stakeholders will assess progress on values and goals.
