July 27, 2010 - In March of 2008, New York Times Reporter and Warwick parent Bill Pennington wrote an article on the cultural misconception about athletic scholarships. In the article, Mr. Pennington talks about the big difference between what parents and student athletes expect in the way of scholarships and what the scholarships actually deliver. When asked what advice he would offer to parents and student athletes who are thinking about athletic scholarships as a way to finance college, Mr. Pennington suggested reaching out to a college coach via email to find out what the reality on scholarships is, and certainly, if college is the end goal, get good grades.

Middle school student Devin T. took first place in five events at the New York State Boys Gymnastics Championships at West Point. Devin finished first in Rings, Parallel Bars, High Bar, Pommel Horse and Vault to win the overall all around skills championship. Devin competes in the level 5 division for gymnastics. Rian W. and Liza G. where honored by the Orange County League as Warwick’s Scholar – Athletes of the Year. Liza will be graduating in June and attending Hamilton College where she will compete as a goalie for their soccer team. Rian will attend Villanova and compete for their football team. Both are in the top 10% of their class and will graduate with honors. Congratulations to Liza and Rian!

The WVHS 4x800 Relay Team of Pierre A., Dan R., Dan P. and Tim L. ran the fastest high school 3,200-meter relay time in the country this season (7:41.77) at the Penn Relays on Sat. in Philadelphia, earning them first place in the "Championship of America" race.

Senior cross country and track and field star Lillian Greibesland signed a Letter of Intent for Scholarship Tues., Feb. 16 to attend North Carolina State University. As part of the university’s division one track program, the student-athlete will compete in Cross Country, Indoor Track and Outdoor Track for the Lady Wolfpack. MORE

WVHS Students took a Prevention Needs Assessment Survey in 2007 - results show that approximately 70 percent of 10th graders and 90 percent of 12th graders reported having tried alcohol. The Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Council of Orange County (ADAC) offers support and assistance in many areas.
